WORLD famous rockers such as The Killers or the Foo Fighters could soon be playing in Redditch.
Local business Fly By Nite is set to build a bespoke arena-sized rehearsal space for touring bands next to its current base on Shawbank Road in Lakeside.
The idea is that the space, which will be one of only a few in the country, can be used by bands and touring companies before they go on tour.
The move comes after the Redditch-based transportation firm doubled the size of its fleet in the past four years, thanks to securing new contracts with bands such as The Killers, the Foo Fighters and Brit rockers Franz Ferdinand.
The business, established in 1990, transports production equipment for touring bands, theatre and exhibition companies to locations across the UK, Europe and North Africa.
It now operates a fleet of 100 Daff trucks, 30 staff and 140 drivers.
Carl Reed, director at Fly By Nite, said it is a very exciting time for the business.
“Our extensive industry experience and understanding of the challenges production firms face when transporting large amounts of equipment has resulted in significant growth for the business in the past four years,” he said.
“Purchasing this new site is the next step in the company’s growth strategy, and has presented us with a great opportunity to develop a comprehensive rehearsal space.
“A full production rehearsal can take up to five days, and this will enable us to offer an essential service to clients in a central location.”
The expansion was made possible following business guidance from advisory firm Smith Cooper.
