REDDITCH residents are being invited to delve into the town’s past and discover heritage that is right on their doorstep.

They are being asked to take part in England’s largest festival of history and culture.

This year Redditch, part of the new North East Worcestershire Cultural Compact, will be joining forces with neighbouring localities to share their history and culture as part of the annual Heritage Open Days.

Redditch will be taking part in a number of short talks, exhibitions, children’s activities and open days across various venues up until this Sunday, September 18.

On Saturday, September 17 from 10 am to 4 pm St Stephen's Church will be open to the public. Visitors can have a go at bell ringing, enjoy a tower tour, view the 13th century Bordesley Abbey tiles and stained glass windows as well as lots of eco-activities for children.

On Sunday, September 18 from 10 am to 4 pm Forge Mill Needle Museum and Bordesley Abbey Visitor Centre will be open for free to the public.

Visitors can take a guided tour of the museum and abbey ruins, listen to live music, watch various displays and enjoy free entry to ‘Found - an exhibition by Art in Textiles: Made in Britain.

Cllr Jo Beecham, who is portfolio holder for leisure and cultural services at Redditch Borough Council said: “As a town, Redditch might be much younger than some of our neighbours, but we still have lots of history to share.

“This is your chance to celebrate the heritage of Redditch, try new experiences and explore the culture on your doorstep!
