A WELL-LOVED burger takeaway, which started out as a lockdown venture, has closed its doors for the final time.

Huge price increases and their family’s future has led owners Jonathan Preece and Shannon Kelly to close Burgerr Off.

Jonathan said they have decided to quit while they can as price increases are ‘just going to get worse’.

“Prices are increasing every week and they aren’t going to stop rising", said Jonathan.

“It’s not worth it anymore.

“People have called us mad, but takeaways are chasing their tails and I don’t want to put myself in that position.

“It has been a slow increase of prices at the wholesales but then recently it’s been like £300 extra a week.

“Customers are also spending less on takeaways as they have less money to spend on things other than bills.”

“Around six months ago we had around 22 members of staff including drivers, we couldn’t keep up with demand.

“But as time has gone on there’s been a decrease in customers.”

However, their last days of trading from Thursday, November 10 to Sunday, November 13 was a sell-out with the Redditch community not wanting to miss out on their last burger.

“The weekend was absolutely mental, we were going to trade until we sold out but we sold out on Thursday and I ended up going to the wholesalers four times,” added Jonathan.

The couple, who have two sons, aged two and six, also want to spend more time as a family and are set to get married in the next few weeks.

They also own another business, named Munch which is a mobile snack bar that travels around factories and industrial estates in Redditch delivering food at lunchtime and break times.

Jonathan has reassured that the mobile van won’t be going anywhere.
