TWO men have been charged after a crash in Redditch left a police officer needing hospital treatment.

On Monday, May 22 emergency services rushed to Silver Street just after 3.30pm to a crash involving a suspected stolen Ford Fiesta and a West Mercia Police dog unit.

The two occupants of the stolen vehicle were taken to the Alexandra Hospital, Redditch for treatment before being arrested.

Joshua Jones, of Pitfields Road, Oldbury, and Harry Smith, of Compton Grove, Halesowen, appeared at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on May 24.

Jones, aged 18, is also charged with failing to stop and driving without insurance and was remanded in custody.

Smith, also aged 18, was bailed and both will appear in court again on June 21.

A police officer who was driving the dog unit vehicle was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.
