REDDITCH residents came together to say a final farewell to an "amazing" community champion.

A funeral was held for Nettie Lloyd, a founding member of Redditch's Church Hill Big Local charity, this week.

A JustGiving page was previously launched by Alex McGowan of St. Andrew's Methodist Church, Church Hill Big Local and Bill Hartnett, Labour councillor for Church Hill, to help fund the 76-year-old's send-off. More than £1,000 was raised for the funeral.

Before she passed away in June, she was "unable to put her affairs in order" and would only be entitled to a public health funeral arranged by the local authority.

Nettie was also involved with the Redditch Older Peoples Forum, Mendip House Residents Association, Redditch Labour Group, and was a supporter of the 'Save the Alex' campaign.

Her funeral was held on Thursday, August 24, at Redditch Crematorium. A wake was held at St. Andrew's Methodist Church.

Bill Hartnett for Church Hill described Nettie as a "great supporter" of her community.

He thanked all those who helped in making the arrangements for the service and wake.

Conservative Church Hill councillor Karen Ashley described Nettie as an "amazing lady who loved her community".

She said: "Although poles apart politically we shared a few good laughs along the way. She will be always be remembered".
