Redditch police officers have relocated to a temporary station in the town’s shopping centre whilst a new hub is being built.

Officers are expected to be located at Kingfisher Shopping Centre until October 2024 when work on the brand-new police and fire hub on Middle House Lane is completed.

PCC John Campion has been working closely with West Mercia Police to ensure the needs of the community are met and the temporary station has the facilities the officers and staff need to carry out their roles effectively.

PCC Campion said: “I am pleased to see that all police officers and staff have now moved into the temporary station. I hope communities will feel the benefits of having their local policing team in the heart of the town.

“I am grateful to my estates team and contractors Speller Metcalfe for ensuring the retail space is suitable for supporting West Mercia Police’s operational needs.”

The shopping centre was chosen to ensure officers maintained a high visibility in the community and that policing could be kept in the heart of Redditch.

Whilst the temporary station does not have a front counter, the public will still be able to contact their local officers by making appointments or using the new digital kiosks that are positioned outside the building.

People can also report crimes and contact their neighbourhood policing team on the West Mercia Police website whilst news and information can also be received via Neighbourhood Matters.

The North Worcestershire LPA Commander, Superintendent Mel Paley, added: “It’s key that we maintain our visible policing presence in Redditch town centre whilst our new shared hub is being built.

“I’m confident this temporary station has the facilities officers and staff need to enable us to continue this important role in our community.”
