Plans to improve the rail network in Redditch and the wider West Midlands have been revealed.

The 30-year West Midlands Rail Investment Strategy aims to expand train services, modernise rail travel and benefit residents by supporting the public transport needs of local people.

The proposals for Redditch include providing new connections at Kings Norton for services to Birmingham Moor Street through Moseley, Worcestershire County Council’s £10 million regeneration of the railway station and increasing services from two to three trains per hour.

Residents can also expect the replacement of 30-year-old Cross City line trains in early 2024 with new modern rolling stock as well as a second platform at Redditch by 2040 to increase services to four trains per hour.

MP Rachel Maclean said: “Rail is an important form of travel for many residents including myself, so it’s great to see the investment Redditch will directly benefit from as part of the West Midlands Rail Investment Strategy.

“New trains, new connections for Redditch services, a brand-new railway station more trains are promises the strategy makes which I will ensure are delivered.”
