There is still time to get training for this year's Wythall and Hollywood Fun Run.

The event is scheduled for Sunday, June 23 at Wythall Park in North Worcestershire.

Organisers are still welcoming potential participants for its 5k, 10k and relay races.

It is also open to those interested in walking or wheeling the route.

For those hesitant about their fitness level, Steve Cram, an Olympic Medallist and World Champion runner, is one of the coaches for the NHS Couch to 5k programme.

The scheme helps people gradually build up to running 5 km in nine weeks by mixing running and walking exercises.

Lisa McNally, director of public health for Worcestershire, Cram, visited Wythall Park to oversee the preparations.

She said: "We’re really looking forward to getting Wythall and Hollywood moving and bringing the fun run back to the town, and it’s great to see the course beginning taking shape.

"If you’re not ready to run just yet, the Couch to 5k programme is ideal for guiding you through the process from sofa to start line, so you can join us all here on June 23".

Mr Cram added: "Local community events in running are really important, it’s how I started years ago.

"We want to give people that bit of confidence and support to start running.

"Running is a great platform for you to build and grow physically and mentally.

"There’s lots of opportunities including Couch to 5k to get started running, it does not matter what age, what running ability you have, what background, you can definitely give this event a go."

The fun run is more than just a race, as it also offers food, entertainment and a medal for participants who complete the course.
