MILLIONS of sports enthusiasts from all over the world will be turning their attentions to Los Angeles this summer for the Olympic Games.

But for one Redditch man, this year’s event will be an even greater spectacle.

Mr Roger Self, who lives in Astwood Bank but works in Alcester, has achieved his ultimate ambition and will parade with the cream of British athletes in front of a packed house in the Olympic stadium.

He is travelling to America as manager of the British hockey team.

The team was originally picked as first reserve for the game but they have been called upon to fill the gap left by the withdrawal of the Soviet Union.
