“I’M ready to fight our corner here and in Westminster”. The words of a defiant Karen Lumley who managed to comfortably retain her seat as Redditch MP.
In the 2015 general election Tory Mrs Lumley came in first with 20,771 votes, beating Labour’s Rebecca Blake who received 13,717 votes.
Mrs Lumley, who defeated labour big hitter Jacqui Smith in 2010 by taking a majority of 5,821 with 43.5 per cent of the vote, fought a hard battle in the run up to this year’s election.
She paid tribute to her hardworking team.
During her acceptance speech at Redditch Town Hall earlier this morning, a jubilant looking Mrs Lumley praised a “great community” and said she was looking forward to the next five years.
Mrs Lumley also paid tribute to the other candidates saying it was a well fought battle.
The full results from the election are Rebecca Blake got 13,717 votes, Seth Colton got 168 votes, Peter Jewell got 7,133 votes, Hilary Myers got 1,349 votes, and Kevin White got 960 votes.
Votes cast in this year's general election are 44,222, an increase on the 2010 election where the number was 44,018.
Turnout in this year's general election has also increased with 67.5 per cent turnout compared to 64.2 per cent in 2010.
