Beoley WI
I am a weary and lonesome traveller, sang the excellent Billy Board 6.5 Skiffle group at our December meeting and Christmas party, along with other songs from the 1960s including Sweet Sixteen, Rock Island Line and My Old Man's A Dustman. They are donating their fee to Children in Need. In a seasonally decorated hall, the bar was open and we enjoyed an American Supper before completing a quiz on Christmas television commercials. The competition, for a candle in a candlestick, was won by Jean Chesterton with a tall red candle standing in a Christmas scene. A note of thanks from the Queen for Beoley's birthday card was read out, and also a letter written at her request, thanking Beoley and member Jill Davies, who made the card. Raffle prizes included a hamper and a Christmas cake made and decorated by Committee member Nicky Shaw. Members are going on a trip to Bristol, on a wreath-making workshop in Hanbury, and to the Group Carol Service at Kingswood.
The next meeting will be on January 3 at 7.30pm and there is a venue change for that meeting only, to Bishop's Barn, Bordesley Park Farm. New members are welcome. The talk will be Discover History, by Paul Harding, and the competition will be for the oldest coin.
