At our meeting, having read about the two resolutions proposed, on Alleviating loneliness and Plastic soup, we were further informed by videos and discussion before voting. Our majority wish is to see the WI use its influence to encourage government to support and fund research and development into water treatment, textile production and recycling equipment and processes, as well as to persuade washing machine manufacturers to introduce filters to reduce the numbers of micro-plastic fibres entering the ocean. This is because of concern that so many micro-plastic fibres from synthetic textiles are entering the world's oceans and thence the food chain, with unknown consequences for the human race.
On the following day, members were going on a visit to the Guide Dogs National Breeding Centre, near Warwick.
The competition, for flower of the month, was won by Linda Williams with a spray of wisteria blossom.
Our Members' Meeting at 7 pm on June 6 will be a talk and tour of St Leonard's Church, followed by a fish and chips supper.
