Alcester Gardening Club
As a change from the advertised speaker who could not come, the club was very lucky to get wildlife photographer, Nick Martin, with a talk entitled "Secrets of the wildlife garden". This talk centred on Nick’s own garden, which, he readily admitted, he was reluctant to show to an audience of gardeners! He had developed the garden from scratch with a view to attracting wildlife of all descriptions. His beautifully photographed slides showed how successful he had been in attracting, not only birds, but also butterflies, insects, hedgehogs, foxes and even badgers. Nick works for the RSPB at the Middleton Lakes reserve where some of his pictures were taken. His style was approachable and friendly but very informative and members of the audience have requested that we invite him again soon.
The speaker on Thursday September 7 is Julie Ritchie with a talk about easy alpines and low-growing perennials. There is just time to book a place at the Christmas dinner at the Green Dragon at Sambourne on December 3.
Any enquiries can be made to the secretary on 01789 765105. Meetings take place at the Centre, Jubilee Court, accessed via Lea Close Alcester, usually on the first Thursday of the month. Everyone is welcome and there is a charge of £2.50 for guests but this does include refreshments.
