AN angry parent has hit back at Redditch councillor Michael Braley after he blamed motorists dropping off their children at schools in Downsell Road, Webheath, for causing traffic problems.
Kim Mandefield drops off her two children at one of the schools on the road and she feels strongly that parents have no choice over where to park.
She said: "I feel very angry that the parents are made out to be the bad guys all the time when all we want to do is drop our kids off at school.
"There is the odd exception to the rule but most do try to park sensibly."
Downsell Road is one of the spots where traffic congestion is becoming a problem during term time.
The road is home to two schools, Webheath and Our Lady of Mount Carmel first schools and during peak times when children are being dropped off and picked up, cars often line both sides of the road, occasionally blocking driveways, according to Redditch West councillor Mr Braley.
Mrs Mandefield said she was becoming irate with those who share Mr Braley's views on parents.
"I always park sensibly," she said.
"I also pay my road tax and as far as I'm concerned, if I want to stay around for 10 minutes talking to friends then that's up to me.
"I'm fed up with the moaning of these residents and the dirty looks you get when you're dropping off your children. They own their houses, not the road, as a few of them seem to forget.
"It's very difficult to find anywhere to park and with the greatest of respect, they choose to buy a house next to two schools, so they have to expect a certain amount of disruption around dropping off and picking up times."
