RESTRICTIONS have been imposed by the General Medical Council (GMC) on the practice of a Redditch GP pending the outcome of its investigation into matters relating to him.
Dr Josaiah Adenugba will now remain under the conditions imposed by the GMC until February 28, 2009.
The conditions, among other things, stipulate he must notify the GMC of any professional appointment he accepts for which GMC registration is required.
He must inform the GMC of any formal disciplinary proceedings taken against him and he must inform the GMC if he applies for medical employment outside the UK.
Further, he must not undertake any private practice, must confine his medical practice to National Health Service training posts where his work will be supervised by a named consultant or GP.
He must not work as a locum in general practice, must not undertake any out-of-hours general practice work and must inform any employers or prospective employers in respect of posts requiring GMC registration of the conditions that have been imposed.
No details of the circumstances leading to imposition of the conditions are given in the decision, which has just been published.
However, a spokesman for the GMC said cases such as this were referred to the Interim Orders Panel when a doctor is facing allegations of such a nature that it may be necessary for the protection of members of the public, or otherwise be in the public interest or in the interests of the doctor, for the doctor's registration to be restricted while the allegations are resolved.
The spokesman added considerations taken into account included preserving public trust in the medical profession and maintaining good standards of conduct and performance.
