A FORMER post office worker is one of two new community support officers on the beat in Redditch.
Jenny Evans and Surinder Maman, who worked as a security officer at Birmingham International Airport, have joined the local policing team for Redditch Central.
They will cover the town centre, Smallwood, Southcrest, Batchley, Abbeydale and Riverside.
CSO Evans said: "I wanted a job with strong links to the community and am looking forward to the challenge of my new role. I have had a great welcome to the force so far."
The pair, who have just completed seven weeks training at West Mercia Constabulary's headquarters, will be mentored on the job by experienced CSOs for the next 12 months as part of the Initial Police Learning and Development Programme.
Insp Ian Joseph, of Redditch police, said: "Our local communities are now seeing an increase in the uniformed presence on the town's streets and we hope that this will provide reassurance and a point of contact for residents.
"I would encourage people to go and have a chat when they see their local CSOs out and about."
