ON Sunday, September 9, 49 ramblers and their friends had a coach trip to Llangollen in the beautiful River Dee Valley.
Some chose to spend the day in this delightful Welsh town which is renowned for hosting the annual International Eisteddfod in June, and has done so since 1947, in an attempt to mend bridges through song, music, dance and poetry after the Second World War.
Even the great (and sadly late) Luciano Pavarotti appeared on stage when a young man and made a return visit just a few years ago. The remainder either chose the shorter/easier historical walk of six miles which started with coffee at the horseshoe falls and then along the canal towpath for a picnic lunch on the hillside overlooking the Valle Crucis Abbey and superb views of the Dee valley.
It was then a gentle stroll around the base of Crow Castle (Castell Dinas Bran) and back to Llangollen for afternoon tea.
The more adventurous chose the eight mile hillier walk from the village of Carrog, over the Llantisylio Hills with their outstanding views, followed by a well earned drink at the Sun Inn, Rhewl, before catching the coach back home from the Horseshoe Falls.
