MEMBERS and two visitors were welcomed to the September meeting.

The August Fish and Chip walk from Alcester, organized by Gerda and Brian Michie, had been enjoyable and the evening dry, following a wet day.

Members were reminded of the forthcoming Half Yearly Council Meeting on October 23 at Pershore High School, the Autumn LRS Group Meeting at Hanbury on October 17 and the president would take names of anyone wishing to see the Redditch Operatic Society production of Jekyll and Hyde in November.

An invitation had been received to the 70th birthday party of Kington with Dormston WI on November 14, the county Carol Service would take place on December 7 at Kidderminster Town Hall, the County Harvest Festival Service would be held at Worcester Cathedral on October 7 at 6.30pm and all would be welcome to attend this service.

The president, Judith Scott, introduced the speaker for the evening, Jo Chandler.

Jo, who had stepped in at short notice, gave a most entertaining talk on her very large and impressive collection of "pop-up" books, a selection of which she had brought to the meeting.

The amazing collection covered several generations and subjects as diverse as children's fairy stories and space flight.

The next Crafty Ladies Meeting will be on September 26 and Jackie Gregory will tutor two beaded amulet making classes on October 17 and 24. Further details of these classes can be obtained from Janet Cottrill.

After the refreshment break there was discussion on "A Resolution for Worcestershire" regarding the funding of nursing home care, prior to this being voted on at the Council Meeting.

The Flower of the Month competition was won by Shirley Smith with a hollyhock and the competition for a hand made card for a mother was won by Jill Gallagher.

The next meeting will be the Annual Meeting on October 10 and it is hoped as many members as possible will attend. The competition will be A Savoury Snack on a Plate.
