ALCESTER showed it had plenty of flower power as it celebrated winning a gold award in the regional results of the Britain in Bloom competition.
The awards for Heart of England in Bloom 2007 were announced on Friday, September 7 at a ceremony at Cheltenham Town Hall and Alcester scored its sixth gold in succession in the medium town section.
Judges were out and about through July to see more than 100 entrants compete for awards and their Alcester report highlighted the community spirit of the town.
Mention was made of the excellent floral displays and the effort put in to recover from the recent floods.
Alcester Town Councillor Susan Adams said that it was a tremendous achievement by a very hard working committee.
"There is no other organisation in the town that brings out the great community spirit that Alcester in Bloom manages to."
Sir William Lawrence OBE, president of Heart of England in Bloom, said: "I would like to congratulate all those who made Heart of England in Bloom this year such a close contest, and to thank all those involved for their passion and dedication demonstrated in pulling together such wonderful displays."
Senior judge Les Goodman said: "It has been a difficult season for many involved with Bloom this year with terrible weather and personal adversities to overcome, so a huge congratulations to all those who took part in 2007.
The winners of the national Britain in Bloom competition will be announced at the RHS Britain in Bloom Awards Presentation on September 26 at Coventry Cathedral.
