THE human remains found in the grounds of a house in Alvechurch have been confirmed as being those of former model Andre Nunes.
In a heartbreaking statement, Mr Nunes' sister described his murder as "brutal and pointless, a tragic waste of life".
The remains were discovered in August during the systematic search of Moorlands Farm in Lilley Green Road, which had become the centre of the police investigation into Mr Nunes' disappearance.
He had been missing for two years after disappearing from his flat in Weoley Castle, Birmingham.
Police reclassified the case as a murder investigation in March 2006.
Senior investigating officer Det Supt Mick Treble said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with Andre's family at this very sad time.
"The investigation continues with our detectives determined to find out what happened to Andre and bring those responsible for his murder to justice."
Mr Nune's sister, Siobhan Harper-Nunes, spoke on behalf of the Nunes family and said: "Our reaction is a mixture of relief and horror. Relief that after two years of anguish we finally have some answers.
"However, relief has quickly been replaced by horror as the circumstances of Andre's death have unfurled.
"This is a brutal and pointless murder and a tragic waste of life."
She added: "We only hope that those responsible are brought swiftly to justice."
Michael Weldon, 55, from Rednal, has already been charged with Mr Nune's murder and kidnap.
Police have also charged Michael Oliver, 51, from Alvechurch, as part of the same investigation, with three counts of possessing illegal firearms.
