AN Oakenshaw youngster has scooped a valuable prize for her family after winning a recycling competition at last month's Morton Stanley fun day.
The mayor of Redditch, Councillor David Hunt, presented the prize to Bethany Adams, 11, at a ceremony in the town centre on Friday, September 7.
The prize was a food waste disposal unit worth more than £300.
Bethany's dad Wayne said: "We are all very keen on recycling in our family and we want to do our bit for the planet and future generations.
"It's great that the schools recycle exactly the same as we do at home.
"It's easy now not having to separate things out."
Mr Hunt said: "As a council we are keen to promote the Reduce, Re-use and Recycle message.
"It's great to see young people such as Bethany becoming involved in recycling and growing up knowing their contribution really helps the environment in the long term."
Worcestershire County Council's recycling bus rolled up at the prize-giving on Friday in Church Green and Redditch Council staff were also on hand to give advice on recycling to any passers-by.
