AMONG the passengers on board the Isle of Man Steamship Company's "Tynwald" which got lost in the fog a few days ago when making the journey from Douglas to Fleetwood were Mr and Mrs E Cassell, Evesham Street, Redditch, and another native of the town, and they, with the others on board, had a very anxious twenty-four hours.
Mr Casewell said they made good progress for the first hour and a half before the atmosphere became hazy. The vessel entered a thick bank of fog, so dense that those on deck could only see a few yards in front of them.
Suddenly the steamship ran close between two fishing vessels and then the officers, crew and passengers realised there was danger about.
After a frightening twenty-four hours for all on board, the lightship at Morecombe Bay and then a tugboat hove came into view and cheer after cheer was raised by passengers and crew.
