A DRUMMER on a marathon mission has hit Alcester as he walks and drums his way from John O'Groats to Lands End raising money for prostate cancer.
Dan Fowler, a 27-year-old musician from Loughborough, has pledged to carry on his mammoth one-man challenge despite the death of the friend who inspired the project.
Fellow drummer and cancer campaigner David Rae died from prostate cancer following a three-year battle against the disease.
Dan is doing the 1,000-mile route carrying a 10kg drum, which he beats every eight steps, and a 28kg backpack, taking time out at Island Meadow Caravan Park in Aston Cantlow.
"Many people have walked from John O'Groats to Lands End before, but no-one has beaten a drum all the way," said Dan.
"I decided months ago that I wanted to do something to help raise funds for PROSTaid, a charity David was heavily involved with and which aims to help fight prostate cancer.
"However, I never could have imagined that David would not be around to see me cross the finish line.
"Although devastated, I know that he would have wanted me to carry on."
