VISITORS to Redditch Police Station this weekend are in for a surprise.

As well as vintage cars, uniforms and equipment, people will be able to see the Mayor of Redditch, Councillor David Hunt, locked up in a cell.

Other attractions at this year's open day, which follows a historical theme, will include police uniform and equipment from the early 1900s, face-painting, competitions and music provided by the West Mercia Constabulary Band.

Insp Ian Joseph said: "We regretfully had to call off the day last time due to exceptional and unprecedented circumstances but Sunday's event will go ahead even if the weather takes a turn for the worst."

He added: "We have a packed programme of attractions and activities lined up and we intend to ensure that everyone has a cracking day out."

There will be an opportunity to see the custody block and have fingerprints and photographs taken for wanted posters and youngsters will get the chance to play detective by examining a mock crime scene.

Insp Joseph added: "The open day provides a marvellous opportunity for us to engage with the local community.

"Entry is free and we have new games and competitions organised as well as plenty of balloons and other police-related goodies to hand out - we're confident that no-one will leave empty handed or disappointed."

The open day takes place on Sunday, October 14 at Redditch Police Station in Grove Street and runs from 11am-3pm.
