A MAN has been seriously injured after falling nearly 40 feet through the roof of the Primark store in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.
The 23-year-old electrician who had been working in a lift shaft, fell through two plasterboard ceilings and became lodged between some electric cables and a ventilation shaft.
The incident happened on Wednesday, October 3 at around 2.50pm.
The fire and rescue service were called out and had to dismantle a wall in order to make it easier to get to the man.
Paramedic Paul Reeves said: "Under the supervision of the fire service my colleague, Dave Hope, squeezed up between two ventilation shafts to reach the patient from below, while I was guided down from above.
"We were then able to raise him up to a level surface with the help of some of the fire-fighters and immobilise him using a neck collar and spinal board in preparation for transferring him to hospital."
The man was taken to Alexandra Hospital suffering serious injuries.
Kingfisher Shopping Centre manager Amanda Philips, said: "It was an unfortunate incident but the fire and rescue services dealt with it very professionally as did our own staff."
