ON Monday, October 1 several guests and visitors attended our meeting and the guest speaker was Jeff Reading from Warwick and Leamington Cancer Research, whose talk was most informative.
There are about 3,000 volunteers around Britain raising funds for cancer research and that to conduct various projects approximately £1 million per day is needed.
There were also about 150 shops throughout the country.
He stressed the importance of being a non-smoker as nearly half of deaths from cancer were tobacco related.
Other major causes were from breast, skin and prostate cancer but fatalities were slowly reducing and the main aim was to beat it by living with it but bringing it under control.
A vote of thanks was proposed by past president Charles Girvan.
It was good to see the Mayor of Alcester, David Hancox, paying a visit as he was made an Honorary Rotarian earlier in the year.
On Monday, October 15 an evening with ladies will be at Kings Coughton Hotel when David and Ann Owen will be talking about The Longbow and describing battles of Crecy and Agincourt.
Anyone interested in Rotary should call our president David on 01789 750768.
