THE club met for its September meeting at the Holly Bush Hotel when Terry Scott was, at last, initiated as vice president by president Oliver Davidson, Terry having been unable to attend before due to problems caused by the recent floods.
After lunch, Royal British Legion Warwickshire chairman Philip Wilson gave a most interesting talk about decorations and medals and in particular about the origins of the Victoria Cross. He gave examples of several holders' deeds by which they were recommended for the decoration.
It was obvious that Mr Wilson has spent hours researching the subject and must be considered to be an expert in this field.
His talk was enthusiastically received and he was subjected to a lot of questions - a sure sign that everyone was most interested!
There will not be the usual meeting in October as the club will be paying its annual lunchtime visit to the Academy Restaurant at Stratford College.
This time it will be something of a celebration of the club's 20th year.
Our next meeting at the Holly Bush Hotel will be on Wednesday, November 22 at 12.15pm for 12.45pm when our speaker will be Bill Malin, past Town Crier of Alcester and president of the National Guild of Town Criers, who will, of course, be telling us about that occupation.
There are still some places for new members and anyone interested in joining us should contact the secretary, Bob Woodfield, on 01789 766217 for details.
Should anyone be looking for a monthly luncheon with good fellowship and interesting talks, this is the club to join!
