LOCAL band Page 44 are the proud winners of best band for Carling Supports Birmingham.

The contest, which was run by the Carling Academy in all of their major venues, saw bands competing for the chance to play as a support act to touring groups.

The winners also got to see two of their best tracks featured on a Carling Supports CD.

Adam Stanford, Samuel Wilson, Adam Vygus and Laurent Gillgrass, who hail from Redditch, went head to head with three other shortlisted bands, Jacks Wasted Life, Marvyn Oates, and Satsangi, to impress a panel of independent judges and scoop their victory.

The win means that now Page 44, who came out top in a download chart organised by Channel 4's Popworld last year, will get to perform in a support slot in a future Carling Academy show.
