A RETIRED art teacher in Wythall serenaded neighbours by playing clarinet on his doorstep during yesterday's Clap for Carers.
80-year-old Peter Carlton, of Barkers Lane, held a special concert where he performed renditions of well-loved songs on the instrument he has been playing for 60 years.
During the clap to honour NHS workers all over the country, Peter played hopeful songs including Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Any Dream Will Do.
He said: "A neighbour asked me if I would like to take out my clarinet and play something. It was quite well received.
"I have been playing clarinet for the past 60s years and played in my own jazz bands.
"Hopefully it's bringing a little bit of joy to peoples lives. If I can help people during this time I'm perfectly happy to do that.
"I shall probably be doing it every Thursday from now on.
"If it encourages other people to perform on an instrument that's great.
"Obviously it's very important that we support all of our care workers and key workers.
"They are the people who should be congratulated."
