Who are you? We are a family business at heart. Husband and wife team Alison and Jason are behind its inception, Scott - Jason’s son is running most of the day to day operations. Although not in the business on a day to day basis Scotts three brothers have all played a part in making the showroom what it is today.
When did you open and why? Having installed kitchens for many years we wanted to offer our own fantastic choice of styles and colours in cabinets and worktops plus a range of appliances, sinks and taps to suit all projects and budgets. The concept of opening a showroom was a natural step.
Tell us about your business? We know from personal experience the importance of having a great family space that is the heart of the home.
We all need well designed multi-functional spaces that serve us for family, for work, for entertaining, for making memories, and for preparing great food.
Our kitchen designs can incorporate your needs, and because we have our construction history to draw on, we offer a complete service. This means we can provide any alterations required to make your kitchen design a reality.
We also offer a supply only service should you already have a fitter in mind. Primarily our aim is to offer fantastic, practical design advice that allows us to create the kitchen you want, within the budget you choose.
We have a range of doors and styles available to suit everyone and an unbeatable range of colours. You are always assured of a warm welcome – we set out to create a friendly, relaxing showroom experience giving all the benefits of the bigger high street names such as finance and card payments, but with a very personal service supported by good old-fashioned customer service.
How did you decide on the name? This was Jason’s idea. We were sat at home chatting through various options and suddenly Jason said what about Plum Kitchens? We both liked it immediately so there was no debate. Plum Kitchens was born!
Who works there? Jason and Alison are here full time. Jason is likely to be the first person you meet in the showroom and will be heavily involved in the initial design stage. Showroom visits are by appointment only as this gives you the opportunity to thoroughly explore the space knowing we’re here to answer questions for you whilst you are here.
Who are your customers? It varies – however they are often families or couples looking to undertake a change that involves linking two or more rooms to make a larger open plan space incorporating a socialising dining kitchen arrangement. From the customer’s point of view, we are able to oversee this as a complete project from design to completion using the Creating Better Homes team for the alterations and the kitchen fit.
What is your most memorable / proudest moment in business? Opening the showroom which we built from the ground up. Seeing our Plum Kitchens - Heart of Your Home signage in place. Reopening after lockdown, coupled with some great feedback about the branding plus an order from the first customer through the door was also a real boost.
Have you had any strange/ quirky suggestions from customers? The most unusual conversation we witnessed was between a husband and wife who had measured the distance between the planned location of their microwave and the proposed worktop in order to determine how far they would need to walk with a cooked jacket potato before it reached a surface!
What are your ambitions for the future? We are excited to be planning a second floor to the showroom which will see an increased range of kitchen designs to view. Long term, being a family business, we would love to oversee a safe transition into the capable hands of the next generation.
