THE Redditch community has been paying tribute to HRH Prince Philip, who died today (April 9) at the age of 99.

As a mark of respect, political groups in Redditch have suspended canvassing and have shared tributes to the late Duke.

Redditch MP Rachel Maclean said: “I'm incredibly saddened by the death of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. I know the thoughts and prayers of everyone in Redditch will be with Her Majesty and all members of the Royal Family.

“What an incredible life of service and legacy to our nation. A true public servant and beloved husband.

“I think of the enormous numbers of young people who have completed Duke of Edinburgh Awards and had life-changing experiences they would never otherwise had. May he rest in peace.”

Deputy leader of Redditch Borough Council Mike Rouse said: "Very saddened to hear about the passing of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. Of course, we will pause election activities across Redditch accordingly, and join with the nation in mourning and reflection. God Save The Queen."

The Redditch Labour Party said: "Our condolences to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family on the sad news that HRH Prince Philip has passed away aged 99.

"Redditch Labour Party have suspended canvassing as a mark of respect."

Mark Tomes, chair of Redditch Liberal Democrats said: “We offer our heartfelt condolences to Her Majesty the Queen and all the Royal Family following the death of HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip."

The Duke had recently returned home from his longest-ever hospital stay after a successful procedure for a pre-existing heart condition.

Prince Philip was the longest-serving British consort, serving for 69 years between 1952 and 2021.
