STAFF at a charity shop in Redditch have been left "sad and angry" after their window was smashed in a "senseless act of violence."
A pane of glass was shattered by heartless vandals at the Primrose Hospice shop in the town centre - with the charity now having to use up valuable time and funds to fix it.
The act of vandalism happened overnight between Friday (June 11) and Saturday (June 12).
Primrose Hospice CEO David Burrell described the incident as "disheartening to see" after staff have worked tirelessly to get the shop back up and running due to lockdown restrictions.
People have been getting in touch with the charity, which provides free hospice care to residents in Redditch and Bromsgrove, to ask how they can donate following the incident. People can make a donation here.
Mr Burrell said: “We are really sad and angry to see the damage to our Redditch shop’s window.
"The staff have worked so hard since lockdown restrictions lifted to get the shop up and running again and this was really disheartening to see.
“They’re continuing to work today though and we thank them for their dedication.
“This will affect the charity and divert staff’s time as well as vital funding away from the charity.
“After a difficult year for all charities it really is the last thing we need to be dealing with.
“We are currently coming to the end of Yellow Week to celebrate and raise awareness and money for Primrose but we won’t let the spoil what has been an incredible week with fantastic support from the community.”
Reacting to the vandalism on Facebook, Primrose Hospice fundraising manager Sally Insley said: "Our shops provide an invaluable source of income, they also provide a safe space for our amazing retail volunteers, many of whom have experienced lengthy bouts of isolation due to Covid and were thrilled to return when we were able to reopen.
"I feel so sad that we’ve been attacked by such a senseless act of violence."
People with any information regarding the incident are asked to pass this on to police by calling 101.
