A FUNDRAISER has been launched to raise £120,000 to help fund pioneering cancer treatment to save the life of a Studley mother.
Susie Payne, aged 38, received the heartbreaking news just before Christmas last year that her cancer had returned, following her initial diagnosis in 2018.
She was first diagnosed with breast cancer just weeks after giving birth to her daughter Edith, now aged three.
Susie, who is also mum to six-year-old Albie, received six rounds of gruelling chemotherapy and underwent a double mastectomy, all while looking after a three-year-old and a new baby.
The family were left floored last December when they found the tumour had spread to Susie's lungs and was now at stage four.
Susie's husband said the news was "horrendous" but decided to channel his energy into finding treatment options for his wife which led to the couple discovering the work of Dr Jason Williams from the Williams Cancer Institute, an American doctor in Mexico who specialises in cutting-edge immunotherapy treatment.
The treatment offered a ray of hope for the couple, which targets the cancer cells rather than the whole body.
Susie and Leo travelled to Mexico in January where Susie received the innovative treatment. Scans have shown the initial treatment was successful, but another round is needed which will cost £120,000.
Hope remains that further treatment will prove successful, however the family desperately need to raise the money to make it possible.
Leo, who owns Studley Campers in Redditch, said: "We consider ourselves lucky we could do the first treatment, but we can't do all of it.
"I have never asked for anything. I've worked my whole life, no-one has given me anything. I take pride in looking after my family but I can't get to this second one without help."
The Go Fund Me page was launched a week ago and has already raised more than £35,000.
Leo, aged 43, said: "It's done fantastically well so far, people have been really generous and kind."
In the meantime, Susie is receiving treatment to decrease the size of the tumours in a bid to improve the success of future treatment and is spending as much time as possible with her family.
Leo added: "I would do anything for my wife and family, we need to do it as quickly as possible."
