WORSHIPPERS at churches in Redditch will walk through the town this weekend to raise awareness of climate change.
Christians from member churches of Churches Together in Redditch will walk from Bordesley Abbey to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church on Sunday, September 19.
The walk is inspired by the words of Pope Francis who in 2015 penned a letter on how environmental problems affect us all.
Walkers will begin at the viewpoint overlooking the Abbey ruins and then wind their way through the town centre with themed prayer stops on the way.
The group will focus on ethical shopping, business responsibilities and the need for bold political decisions in the run up to the UN Climate Summit in Glasgow in November.
Jim Quinn, one of the organisers, said: "We are at a critical moment in world history, the future of future generations and the natural world is in our hands.
"This walk is a witness that these issues matter to Christians. We are prepared to do what we can and call upon our leaders, local and national, to do the right thing and make the necessary bold decisions.”
The event is part of a series of activities being held across the country to mark the Season of Creation from September 1 to October 4 and The Climate Coalition’s Great Green Week.
Anybody wishing to join the walk should gather at the Abbey car park opposite Sainsbury’s petrol station at 2pm.
The two-mile walk will finish with a commitment to action and refreshments at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
