A GROUP which campaigned for women’s rights within Alcester Court Leet said they are thrilled with the decision for jurors to be elected ‘irrespective of gender’.
Last month protesters called on the historical organisation to allow women to join and vote.Women were not allowed to serve as court officers, jurors or vote for jurors at the court, which plays a key role in the town's civic life.
However, the court have now agreed that jurors can be of any gender.
A spokesperson for the campaign group said: “We’re absolutely thrilled and grateful to everyone involved in this decision.
“It’s in keeping with the spirit of the town, which has shown such strength of character, generosity and inclusivity in recent times.
“We’re proud of what our Court Leet does for our town and this latest change will allow for important female representation.

“It will also help the sustainability of the court for many years to come by significantly increasing the number of people eligible to be officers and allowing opportunities for the children of Alcester to learn more about the inclusive court and support its work.”
