REDDITCH MP Rachel Maclean has backed a review into the sentences handed to the killers of tragic Arthur Labinjo-Hughes.
The six-year-old was killed by his stepmother following months of horrific abuse from her and his father at their home in Solihull.
Last week, Emma Tustin was jailed for 29 years for murder and child cruelty and Thomas Hughes received 21 years for manslaughter, following the case that has shocked the nation.
The Redditch MP is now backing a review of their sentences by the Attorney General’s Office amid concerns their sentences were too lenient.
Rachel Maclean said: “The senseless murder of Arthur Labinjo-Hughes and the horrific events leading up to his killing has shocked us all.
“I know none of us can understand how anyone could torture and kill an innocent and defenceless little child.
“The full details of what happened to Arthur are too hard to read. I know many of my constituents have been affected by this case. As a mum myself, my heart breaks knowing that Arthur suffered for far too long before his life was taken away from him by those who were supposed to love and care for him.
“His father and stepmother are pure evil, and it’s absolutely right their prison sentences are to be reviewed by the Attorney General’s Office.
“I understand people’s anger about how this was allowed to happen. I am angry too.
“We need answers. We owe it to Arthur to find those answers. The Government has confirmed there will be a national review into Arthur’s death, and we must leave no stone unturned to ensure we’ve learned the lessons from this truly horrific case.”
