THE vicar of St Stephens Church in Redditch has been invited to take up an honorary position at Worcester Cathedral in recognition of his work.
Reverend Paul Lawlor, who also serves as town centre chaplain, has been invited to become an Honorary Canon by the Bishop of Worcester, John Inge.
The role will see Rev Lawlor become an a bridge between the cathedral and the diocese.
Appointments are made by the Bishop of Worcester in consultation with the chapter of the cathedral in recognition of their work in the community.
Reverend Lawlor has served in Redditch for ten years and is also area dean for Redditch and Bromsgrove.
He said: "It's a thank you for the work you're doing but it also reflects well on the people around you and their hard work, it's really lovely.
"I had a letter arrive that was confidential and thought oh no, what's this. When I saw what it was, it was rather nice."
Reverend Lawlor will officially be made an Honorary Canon at a service at Worcester Cathedral on March 12.
