VISITORS to Arrow Valley Country Park can commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this June with a community event.
On Thursday June 2, visitors to the park can enjoy the free event from 5pm until 10pm.
Redditch Borough Council are working alongside partners and community organisations to bring together a celebratory event with food, street entertainment, and music, finished with the ceremonial lighting of the beacons in the park with local choirs at 9.45pm.
Thousands of town criers, along with Pearly Kings and Queens, traditional and Northumberland pipers, buglers, and choirs from communities across the nation and the Commonwealth will play and sing specially commissioned music prior to the lighting of over 1,500 Platinum Jubilee Beacons.
Entertainment already confirmed includes an ABBA tribute band, Bee Gees tribute band and performances from other local musicians.
Parks and events service manager, Ishrat Karimi-Fini, said: “Plans are underway to make this a fantastic event in celebration of this unique occasion. We are part of 1500 locations in the country who will be lighting ceremonial beacons at exactly the same time. It’s already shaping up to be a wonderful event so make sure the date is in your diary!”
Bruno Peek LVO OBE OPR, pageantmaster of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacons, said: “The Beacons will enable local communities to join together and pay tribute to Her Majesty as part of the official programme of events.
“For the first time town criers, pipers, buglers and choirs from the UK and the Commonwealth will come together to join in the celebrations in their own individual and special way. It is wonderful to see the range of support for beacon lighting which will highlight both the diversity and the unity of the nation. The Queen has lit up our lives for seventy years through her dedicated service and commitment."
