BROMSGROVE Sporting are set to wear an all-white tribute kit for Cody Fisher as the team take on Stratford Town at the end of the month.
Cody, aged 23, was fatally stabbed at Crane nightclub in Digbeth on Boxing Day last year.
Three men have been charged with his murder.
Sporting and Stratford were scheduled to play each other on January 2 but as a mark of respect, the teams postponed the match to be played on February 28 at the Victorian Ground.
As Cody previously played for both teams, Sporting have decided to wear an all-white kit and aim to use the game ‘to pay their respects’ to Cody.
The idea behind the kit is inspired by Arsenal’s ‘No More Red’ initiative which is aimed at keeping young people safe from knife crime and violence.
A spokesperson for Bromsgrove Sporting said: “As a stance against knife crime, we will be removing the colour red from our kit for this game.
“The colour white is a symbol of the stand against knife crime.
“This kit will only be worn once and will contain a Cody 23 tribute on the front of the shirt.
“Following the match, these match-worn shirts will be auctioned off to supporters, with all of the proceeds going to the family of Cody Fisher and their charity of choice.”
There will be collection buckets at the game for fans to make donations and full hospitality package for two people at a Birmingham city game, which has been donated by Sporting sponsor Swallow Wholesale Drinks Solution, will be raffled off.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Southern League and Stratford Town FC for their support in agreeing to the kit swap,” added the spokesperson.
The club has also thanked Bromsgrove District Council Commercial Waste Services, and Moving Forward Sports for donating and manufacturing the kit.
