A CLOSING date has been announced for a Wetherspoons pub in Redditch.
Last September JD Wetherspoons put 32 of its pubs across England up for sale including The Rising Sun in Redditch.
Previously it was understood that the pub on Alcester Street would continue to operate until it was sold.
However, now it has been confirmed that the pub’s last day of trading will be April 16, despite the pub still being on the market.
Many residents said they would like to see another pub or cocktail bar to take The Rising Sun’s place or an entertainment complex such as a bowling alley.
The name of the Redditch pub recalls an earlier pub of the same name on the site which was demolished during the redevelopment of the town centre.
Once the Rising Sun closes the only Wetherspoons in the town will be The Royal Enfield on Unicorn Hill.
