SHOPPERS say it’s ‘no surprise’ that Lidl has announced it will be closing its Redditch town centre store.
Last week it was confirmed that the store in The Quadrant, which was first opened 25 years ago, is set to close.
The budget supermarket giant said the store was no longer fit for purpose.
However, customers can still shop at the Lidl supermarket on Battens Drive which opened in June last year.
Shoppers have said that it comes as ‘no surprise’ that Lidl has decided to close the town centre supermarket as a lot of people ‘shop at the newer store’.
One customer said on Facebook: “Love the new one, staff very friendly, had everything I needed (apart from green tea) and easy parking.”
Whilst another customer said: “The one in town is out of the way for most people. “Personally, don’t shop there because of parking”.
Another shopper said: “Knew that would happen as soon as they announced they were building one at arrow valley... That Lidl is much easier to get to without the faff of town traffic.”
However, others have said those who rely on public transport will struggle to access the Lidl on Battens Drive.
Whilst Lidl said they cannot confirm a closure date for the town centre store they 'will look to redeploy all colleagues where possible'.
