THE relocation of Redditch Library is set to be discussed by another council committee next week.
On Monday, June 26 Worcestershire County Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Performance Board is scheduled to discuss the current proposals before they go before the cabinet on July 20 where a final decision will be made.
The proposals for relocating Redditch Library are a part of the Town Plan Deal led by Redditch Borough Council.
On June 8, the corporate and communities overview and scrutiny panel discussed the proposals.
The panel recommended that the specific layout for the children’s library, a young person’s space and the size and flexibility of the multi-functional space be made available for the next scrutiny meeting.
The floorplans were received by the county council on June 15.
It was also established that the county council was awaiting confirmation of the archive space available but collaboration work was ongoing to establish which archives would be kept locally and which would need to be moved to the Hive.
Worcestershire County Council’s Overview and Scrutiny Performance Board, chairman Tom Wells said: "Members of the board will be discussing the proposed relocation and the consultation at the meeting before the proposal goes to cabinet in July and a final decision is made.
“The meeting in the Redditch Town Hall was really well attended, when this item last came to the board, we would welcome and encourage residents to come along and have their say or watch the meeting as it is webcast online.”
The meeting will be taking place in the Council Chamber at County Hall from 10am.
A public consultation about a possible relocation of Redditch Library was carried out between November 7, 2022, and February 24.
There were a total of 1467 people who responded to the survey.
Respondents were asked to what extent they agreed or disagreed with the new location for the library being in the Town Hall and 72.3 per cent of people said they disagree to some extent.
