A FLOODED Redditch underpass has finally been cleared after residents were forced to make ‘dangerous crossings across a busy roundabout’.
A subway under Alvechurch Highway which leads to Sainsbury’s supermarket in the town has been blocked for ten days after it was flooded following heavy rainfall.
According to Cllr Sid Khan, children were making ‘hazardous crossings across the busy roundabout to get school’ while ‘residents were having to make huge detours to get to Sainsbury's’.
He said: “It’s so important that walkways are clear and able to use.
“My concern was that children who were going to the local schools were making treacherous journeys across the dual carriageway.
“The county council needs to ensure that drains are clear.”
The underpass was finally cleared on Thursday, June 29 as engineers removed the water and other debris as well as huge roots.
A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council said: “We have dealt with the immediate issue and pumped out the water at this location.
“Investigations are now ongoing to establish the cause of the flooding and we will liaise with Local Members on the matter.”
