FAMILIES at Redditch's Alexandra Hospital can now rest alongside their loved ones in their final moments, thanks to a generous donation of special equipment.
The donation, which came in the form of a 'Buddy day bed,' was made by the family of Lesley Kelly, a patient who sadly passed away in the hospital's Stephen Bailey Suite.
Lesley's husband, Peter, and daughter-in-law, Kylie, decided to seek donations at her funeral in order to purchase the special reclining chair and comfortable bed.
After conducting their research, the family selected a company that supplies hospital equipment and was able to raise enough funds to buy the item.
They even ensured that the day bed matched the colour of the other furniture in the Suite.
The Stephen Bailey Suite is a special end-of-life care room located in Ward 12 at Alexandra Hospital.
It aims to provide a comfortable space for families to spend time with their loved ones during their final moments.
Matron Kirsty Stanton, who is in charge of the ward, invited the Kelly family back to Ward 12 to see the day bed in place and personally thanked them for their generous donation.
She said: "Saying goodbye to a loved one at the end of their life is never an easy thing to do.
"Through the use of the Stephen Bailey Suite on Ward 12, staff hope to help make this experience as comfortable as possible.
“We’re so grateful to the Kelly family for their generous donation which is already making a huge difference to other families going through the same thing that they did in our Stephen Bailey Suite.
"We are overwhelmed by the generosity that the family has shown us during this difficult time for them.”
