A prison officer in Redditch has been jailed for communicating with a serving inmate by mobile phone.
Suzanne Cope, 48, a former prison officer at HMP Hewell, was handed a five-month prison sentence at Worcester Crown Court on October 5 after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing.
The offences, which involved one prisoner, happened when she was a serving prison officer and took place between April and June 2020.
DC James Green said: “We’re pleased with the custodial sentence handed to Cope. She abused her position of trust within the prison and it’s right that she faces the consequences.
“I hope that this case sends a clear sentence that we will take action against those who commit crime regardless of who they are and what their profession is.”
