A primary school in Studley is set to train a 10-week-old puppy as a new therapy dog for its pupils.
Studley St Mary's CofE Academy is introducing an aptly named golden retriever called Joy to help bring comfort to the children and alleviate stress.
Teaching assistant Jo Stevens, who is also studying to be able to train Joy, said: "We are delighted to have Joy our therapy dog in school. We know that she will change our children's lives by making each day happier and more complete.
"She will also offer comfort, alleviate stress and add to our atmosphere of engagement, social interaction and emotional support."
Therapy dogs are said to create a positive learning environment in schools and offer a reassuring presence to help students feel more relaxed and willing to participate in learning.
Pupils can also pet the therapy dogs which are calm, gentle and patient.
The school hopes Joy will have a positive impact on its children, but needs help in covering the costs for her upkeep by hosting a number of fundraising events.
Ms Stevens added: "Having a therapy dog at school will be a fantastic experience for the children at Studley St Mary's CofE Academy and will be an enjoyable and positive experience for everyone.
"We need your help to raise money for the cost and upkeep of Joy the therapy dog and will be holding a number of fundraising events over the next few months as the puppy begins training."
