A CONTROVERSIAL plan to build more than 200 homes in Redditch is set to be decided this week.
A planning application was submitted by David Wilson Homes in December 2021 for 216 homes on parts of Abbey Park Golf Club and fields next to Hither Green Lane and Dagnell End Road.
On Wednesday, March 20, Redditch Borough Council's planning committee will consider the application for residential development, which would also see new play areas created, and public open space including footways and cycleways.
More than 300 people have objected to the plans on the council's planning website, with some raising concerns over increased traffic and the loss of green space.
Campaign group North Redditch Communities Alliance (NoRCA), was formed to challenge the plans.
NoRCA said its main concern is the impact the development will have on traffic in the area as it will affect everyone in Redditch who use A441 Birmingham Road.
However, David Wilson Homes says the "proposed traffic mitigation scheme" will not "result in an increase in traffic".
Redditch Borough Council has made "special arrangements" for its upcoming planning committee meeting. Seating capacity will be increased and a live stream is in place.
A spokesperson for the council said: "It is anticipated that the application will attract a lot of community interest and so public speaking arrangements have been extended over and above the normal limits. In addition, the meeting will be live-streamed.
"While extra seating will be available for the meeting at the Town Hall, capacity is limited to 70 seats, and these will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Interested parties are asked to use the livestream service where possible.
"On the night the Town Hall car park will not be available to the public, although any registered speakers who need disabled parking can contact Democratic Services to reserve a space at democratic@bromsgroveandredditch.gov.uk
"The link to the live stream is https://youtube.com/live/QqBgcCOjpEM?feature=share the link will become live when the meeting commences at 7pm".
