A Redditch mum has called for vital services to return to the Alexandra Hospital as part of a revived campaign. 

Kirsty Southwell, aged 34, organised a peaceful march outside St Stephen's Church on Saturday (March 23) in support of the Save the Alex campaign. 

The campaign is calling for maternity and paediatrics, mental health, orthopaedics and other services to return to the Alexandra Hospital. 

Ms Southwell revived the campaign after her son Finley was stillborn a few years ago and she was forced to make her own way to Worcestershire Royal Hospital as there were no paediatric services at the Alex.

She said: "Restoring services at the Alexandra Hospital is so important. Not everyone can travel to Worcester and with more housing developments being built in Redditch, there are going to be more people in need of services on the doorstep. 

"I am running this campaign not only for the sake of my five-year-old son and 10-year-old nephew but also for other children. It is vital for their future and we're not going to go away.

"You don't always realise how important it is to have services at your local hospital until you need them."

Ms Southwell said she was pleased with the outcome of the march on the weekend but is hoping for an even bigger turnout at future marches set to be held when the weather improves. 

Ms Southwell and MP Rachel Maclean have also met with the new Chief Executive of the Acute Trust this week. 

Ms Southwell added: "We are prepared for a long fight and it was great to see so many supporters join us at the march. 

"My nephew was also there encouraging people to sign our petition. It is so lovely to see the younger generation be so inspired and I hope more people will join us in the campaign to bring back our services."
