A 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was stabbed in Redditch and left fighting for his life.

The 35-year-old is the fourth person to be arrested after officers were called to Evesham Road on Friday (June 14) following reports that a man in his 30s was stabbed in the street.

He remains in police custody today (Tuesday June 18).

The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after the incident at 8.40pm on Friday, police said.

Police have upped patrols in the area and are appealing for witnesses to get in touch.

Inspector Richard Field, Redditch Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “When a knife is used in a public place, it understandably brings huge concern to the local community.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area while we continue to piece together what has happened.

"Anyone with any information or has dashcam, mobile phone footage, or witnessed the incident please contact us.

“I appreciate that not everyone feels comfortable speaking with the police, and I want to stress information can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously.

"You may feel the information you have is irrelevant to the investigation, but however insignificant you think it may be, it could help us to put those responsible in front of a court and help us to keep our community safe.”

A 19-year-old man and an 18-year-old man who were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, and a 15-year-old boy who was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder have been released on police bail while the investigation continues.
