A drug dealer who was selling heroin and crack cocaine into Redditch has been given a two-year custodial sentence.

Shahfagat Ali, aged 20, of Prospect Road North, Redditch, was found guilty of two charges at Worcester Crown Court on Thursday, June 6.

Ali was sentenced to two years in a Young Offenders Institution (YOI) for being concerned in the supply of heroin and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £187.

He was further sentenced to two years in a YOI to run concurrently for being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine.

Ali's sentence follows an investigation by Redditch Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) and the Neighbourhood Crime Fighting Team (NCFT).

Redditch SNT said they were happy to see Ali sentenced for his drug dealing and have urged the community to come forward if they suspect drug dealing and supply is happening in their area.

Police Constable Mike Moore of Redditch SNT said: "We are pleased to see Ali has been sentenced to two years for his drug dealing into our communities in Redditch.

"The misery associated with this offending is well known as is the impact on the local community.

"Officers from West Mercia Police will not tolerate the supply of controlled drugs and will work with the local community and partner agencies to combat it at every opportunity."

The local community can help the police by continuing to report any signs of criminal activity via the West Mercia Police website.
